Knud Rasmussen was born on 5th May 1857 in Århus, Denmark. From 1925 to 1927 he lectured at the University of Århus. From 1928 to 1944 he was research director at Århus University. During the war, between 1943 and 1945, he worked on the German navy's meteorology department
He was also a professor at Århus University from 1929 to 1933. From 1944 to 1947 he was professor at Århus Technical College and Denmark’s top meteorologist until his retirement in 1966, when he became chairman of the Danish Meteorological Institute. He died in Århus on 31st July 1968 aged 83.
